BEIRUT–Aram I Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia met with Syrian President Bashar Assad Tuesday January 2 at the presidential palace in Damascus. The two leaders discussed the internal political situation of Lebanon–Syrian-Lebanese relations–and the ongoing peace process in the Middle East during their two-hour private meeting. On the previous day–Lebanese President Emile Lahud telephoned the Catholicos and wished His Holiness and the Lebanese-Armenian community a happy new year.
