The United Nations Climate Change Conference, known as COP29, will convene in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan from November 11 to 22, at which time thousands of government officials, journalist and representatives of various organizations are expected to take part.
The government of Azerbaijan is using this international forum to mislead international public opinion about its egregious violations and totalitarian nature.
COP29 can serve as a critical opportunity to expose the actual genocidal, belligerent, totalitarian, and anti-democratic nature of Azerbaijan, also highlighting that country’s abhorrent record on climate change.
The global Armenian National Committee network, with its offices and chapter, has embarked on a special campaign that includes reaching out to governmental, political, civic and media institutions that will participate in COP29. The purpose of this campaign is to emphasize and advocate the right to return of Artsakh Armenians and to inform those groups about Azerbaijan’s Genocide committed against Artsakh, its invasion and breach of Armenia’s sovereign borders and the illegal imprisonment of Armenian prisoners of war and hostages.
The aforementioned entities are urged to take action and exert influence on Azerbaijan’s regime to change and halt its policies that violate international human rights norms, practices and law.
Armenians around the world are urged to take immediate action and take part in this campaign by proliferating social media posts in various languages to advance this mission.
Armenian are asked to use these four hashtags: #COP29Exposed, #COPout29, #COP29, #COP29Azerbaijan in their post and download graphics, information and videos on the COPout29 website, prepared by the Global ANC Network.
The use of the hashtags and graphics are important to convey a unified and succinct message to the world.
The 2024 Olympic Games, which will start in Paris in the coming days, are also a good opportunity to express and emphasize this message.
Human rights advocate and the first prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has also issued his own appeal to raise awareness about and counter Azerbaijan’s genocidal policies and violations of human rights.
In a powerful appeal issued on Monday, Ocampo urged Armenians to come together and rally the global community around this just cause.
“You have the commitment, reach, and determination to lead this transformative movement. By rallying global communities, you can ensure that COP29 addresses not only climate change but also champions human rights and justice. Armenians, it is time to lead the charge. Post, comment, and use your voice. I and many others will follow you,” Ocampo specifically said in his appeal.
Well-known political figures and various international organizations have already expressed their displeasure regarding the convening of COP29 in Baku. Some have even called for a boycott of the initiative.
More information will become available as the campaign progresses.
