YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"We have not yet cleared up the conditions and prospects of the Russia-Belarus accord–and statemen’s that Armenia’should be the third country to join this Union are simply demonstrations of political shortsightedness," Vice-Chairman of the Constitutional Rights Union–Hayk Baboukhanian–commented in regards to an opinion held by renowned intelligentsia representatives who convened for a forum May 12 at the Stanislavsky Theater in Yerevan.
Baboukhanian–admitting that an independent state may join any union at its people’s discourse–noted–however–that in the case of Armenia–one should question the assurance of the resolution of priority tasks–such as the resolution of the Karabakh conflict–the improvement of socio-economic conditions and preservation of sovereignty–after joining the Union.
