BUDAPEST—At the world Freestyle Wrestling championship being held in the Hungarian capital, 24-year-old Davit Safaryan (66kg), representing Armenia, was named the world champ beating Cuba’s Livan Lopez.
During the final match, Lopez started off with dual advantages, but during the last round, Safaryan’s strategy and approach put him on the top.
Safaryan, who in March was named the European Champion in competitions held in Tbilisi is now the world champion. Lopez, 31, who won a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics and in 2011 won the title of world co-champion.
Safarian, CONGRATULATIONS
I saw the award/medal ceremony. It was lovely. How ironic that it took place in Hungry where the Azeri murderer of an Armenian soldier was handed over to the Azeri government for monetary compensation and who was set free and honored in Azerbaijan.
For a small country Armenia produces many worldwide champions. Chess, Judo, weightlifting and wrestling. In ballet we also produce many top ballet dancers. Ironically Cuba also produces some oft the worlds best classically trained ballet dancers.
