
GLENDALE—Every year, Senator Carol Liu selects several distinguished women for this award. Dr. Armine Hacopian was honored, along with four other honorees, from Senator Carol Liu’s district which includes Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena; among other cities.
“I am honored for this distinction, from such a vast geographic district,” indicated Dr. Hacopian. This honor is very meaningful because Senator Carol Liu is very involved in California’s higher educational issues and is a recognized leader in the Senate.
Dr. Hacopian is the current President of the Board of Trustees at Glendale Community College. This is her third term as President and she plans on running for a fourth term as a trustee in April of 2013.
According to the Senator, “Hacopian deserves this honor because she has been in the field of education for 40 years serving students as a teacher, ESL Specialist, grant writer, counselor and an administrator”. In addition, while working full time, she has earned two Masters degrees, six credentials, and a doctorate in Educational Administration and Organizational Management. Also, she has been an adjunct faculty member at CSULA and CSUN.
Furthermore, she has been on Accreditation Teams, appointed by the Accreditation Commission for California Community and Junior Colleges, reviewing and validating the programs of colleges seeking accreditation from the State. Also, Dr. Hacopian has served on doctoral dissertation committees assisting students in writing their dissertations and thesis.
Dr. Hacopian was one of the co-founders of Chamlian Preschool, leading to many years of service in the Armenian Community by participating in the Western Prelacy Board of Regents. Consulting for LA County Office of Affirmative Action, training the trainers, and having written numerous training manuals have added to her vast experience and expertise.
Currently, Dr. Hacopian is a board member for the Royal Canyon Property Owners’ Association, helping her local community. She has served as a leader for many organizations, such as League of Women Voters, Glendale Literacy Coalition are to just name a few.
More importantly, Dr. Hacopian, privately has helped numerous troubled young women in developing their educational programs and guiding their career paths, which makes her stand out among other dedicated community leaders.
Since 2009, only 14 women have received such an honor for their immense contributions to their communities from Senator Liu’s vast 21st Senate District.
