NSHAN PALANDJIAN JEMARAN RECEIVES $20,000 FROM AN APPRECIATIVE GREGORIAN
In recognition of Dr. Vartan Gregorian’s many efforts–the Central Executive Board of Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Society granted the organization’s highest medal to the scholar during a banquet celebrating 75th Anniversary of the founding of Hamazkayin. The gathering took place on November 1–at the Homenetmen Ararat Center.
The large family of Hamazkayin supporters and invited guests–over 450 in all–were present.
Dr. Sahag Baghdassarian served as emcee–and introduced the chairman of Hamazkayin Western Region’s Executive Board Vahakn Apkarian–who conveyed greetings on behalf of the board.
Representing the Armenian National Committee–Ardashes Kassakhian presented to Dr. Baghdassarian a certificate of appreciation and recognition from California’s State Legislature.
On behalf of Congressman Adam Schiff–Kassakhian gave recognition certificates both to Dr. Gregorian and Hamazkayin.
In introducing Dr. Gregorian–emcee Dr. Baghdassarian presented a brief biography–noting his great academic achievemen’s–philanthropic undertakings–and the fact that they were classmates at the Beirut Nshan Palandjian Jemaran during the 1950s.
In his address–Dr. Gregorian recalled his past teachers. "For me–Jemaran was my first family," emphasizing that his latest book is dedicated to Simon Vratsian–who served both a father and a hero.
Hamazkayin Central Executive’s address was presented by past executive member Papken Sassouni–a close family friend of Dr. Gregorian.
Along with Vartkes Messerlian–Sassouni decorated Dr. Gregorian with Hamazkayin’s highest medal.
In honor of Vartouhi Markarian–and in appreciation of the unique school he attended–Dr. Gregorian donated $20,000 to Beirut’s Nshan Palandjian Jemaran.
