Monday marks the 10th anniversary of the Dec. 7–1988 earthquake–which devastated northern Armenia. To mark the anniversary and commemorate the victims of the earthquake–the following events are scheduled.
*A memorial Mass and concert–officiated by His Grace Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian will take place Monday at the St. Garabed Church in Hollywood on Monday beginning at 7 p.m. The concert by the Church Choir will proceed under the direction of Prof. Ara Manash. All Prelacy and Diocese affiliated churches will hold special requiem services on Sunday.
*The Board of Regions of the Armenian Schools announced that on Monday all Prelacy-affiliated Armenian schools will remember the victims of the Armenian Earthquake with a moment of silence that will start at 11:41 a.m. Each Armenian School will organize an assembly in remembrance of the disaster during which the school’s principal–faculty– staff–and students will renew their dedication to their nation.
*The Gumri Compatriotic Union will present a memorial gathering at the Verdugo Hills Country Monday evening 6 p.m.
*The residents of Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic will observe a moment of silence at exactly 11:41 a.m. Monday–in memory of the victims of the earthquake. Dec. 7 is a national holiday in Armenia and Karabakh.
*A special insert marking the 10th anniversary of the earthquake is featured in the Weekend edition of Asbarez.
