LOS ANGELES—Homenetmen recognizes Vazken Kalaydjian as the 2025 Exemplary Member, celebrating his lifelong dedication and invaluable contributions to the Armenian-American community.
A pillar of the organization, Kalaydjian, 73, exemplifies Homenetmen’s guiding motto, “Elevate Yourself and Others With You.” His journey with Homenetmen began in Lebanon and continued in the United States, where he has remained an active force since 1976.
“Homenetmen is in my DNA,” said Kalaydjian. “My family’s connection spans nearly a century—as my father played on Homenetmen’s very first soccer team in Lebanon.”
Over the years, Kalaydjian has served in numerous leadership roles, including executive board member, secretary, and advisor. He currently serves as Secretary of the Araz Chapter, Inland Empire, continuing his legacy of mentorship and leadership.
From Lebanon to the U.S., Kalaydjian has dedicated himself to shaping young athletes and future leaders. “Coaching the youth is about more than sports—it’s about instilling values that help them become strong, capable leaders,” he explained.
He believes Homenetmen sports emphasize passion, camaraderie, and a nurturing environment. “It’s a learning experience—fostering competitiveness while strengthening our bond as a community,” he said.
His philosophy on service is simple yet profound: “I am old school. I give my time and efforts without expecting anything in return.” When asked what advice he has for young volunteers, he added, “We lead and serve with no expectations. This recognition is an honor, but with or without it, I will continue working for the betterment of Homenetmen.”
Kalaydjian reflects on the evolution of Homenetmen, contrasting its presence in Lebanon and the Western Region. “In Lebanon, we played against teams of all backgrounds—different religions, races, and nations. A victory wasn’t just for the team; it was a win for Homenetmen and the Armenian people,” he said. “Here, we compete against one another as brothers and sisters, united under the unwavering flag of Homenetmen. Win or lose, our collective spirit strengthens and inspires every participant.”
His leadership continues to shape the organization in the Western Region, reinforcing Homenetmen’s mission of fostering physical, moral, and social development.
The recognition of Yeghpayr Vazken Kalaydjian as the 2025 Exemplary Member not only honors his decades of service but also highlights Homenetmen’s enduring legacy of shaping Armenian youth and preserving cultural heritage across generations.
“At the end of the day, Homenetmen always wins,” Kalaydjian said. “Look at what we’ve built in Southern California—our growth is extraordinary, and I look forward to continuing this mission alongside my fellow brothers and sisters.”
