CANOGA PARK—The Homenetmen Massis Chapter of the San Fernando Valley has closed escrow and became the owner of the property located at 20953 Osborne St., in the city of Canoga Park.
Members of the chapter’s Executive as well as Strategic Planning committees convened at the Homenetmen Western USA Regional office in Eagle Rock on January 10 for the momentous occasion of the signing of the loan documents.
They were greeted by the newly elected members of the Regional Executive committee. Attendees cheered as Homenetmen Western USA Region Chairman Garnik Abrahamian, Homenetmen Massis chapter Chairwoman Katia Karageuzian, and Regional Executive Secretary Raffi Zinzalian put their final signatures on the documents.
The excitement escalated as Karageuzian announced that the new gym already had a major benefactor and will be named the “Jirair and Serpoug Sarkissian Gym.”
The Chairlady thanked the Sarkissians for their generosity, and added that it was a wish come true and a tremendous honor for the chapter to have its gym named after such distinguished Homenetmenagans. Familiar faces within the Homenetmen family, the Sarkissians were the Honorary Presidents of the 17th Navasartian games. Jirair Sarkissian has held many positions within the organization, and his wife Serpoug has been a legendary basketball player and coach.
Hearing of the gathering at the Regional office, nearby Ararat Chapter sent a $500 donation check which was delivered by Aram Yeremian to the great delight of all present. Many toasts and speeches were made in honor of all dedicated Massis members, past and present, who were involved in this project.
Massis chapter will be organizing fundraising banquets as well as inaugural events in celebration of the realization of this twenty year old dream. The chapter invites all members of the Armenian community to join forces, and support this project by signing up for the many sponsorship and room naming opportunities that are available (interested parties may write to Info@massis.org). It is only with investing in our youth that we can assure a brighter future for our people!
CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK
