YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)Hrant Khachatrian was re-elected chairman of Armenia’s Constitutional Rights Union during the organization’s eighth annual conference on Wednesday. Haik Baboukhanian was re-elected vice-chairman.
According to the CRU administrative body–a control commission was set up and new members were admitted to the group.
"The opinion expressed by the US Ambassador to Armenia that the Karabakh conflict should be resolved with respect to the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan is reiterating the statement made by the representative of the US State Department and is the result of the unsuccessful foreign policy of Armenia’s authorities and a new diplomatic defeat," Baboukhanian said in an interview with Noyan Tapan.
Baboukhanian said that it was a violation of diplomatic ethics to express such an opinion while the key to the settlement of the problem is in the hands of the Minsk Group. It is rather surprising that the Armenian authorities have not reacted to this statement.
Baboukhanian accused the United States of double standards–saying that "on one hand the United States speaks of the divinity of democratic norms–while on another–the US speaks of its commitment to the principle of inviolability of borders–thus–overriding the right of the nation to self-determination."
