YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–According to data provided by the Self-Determination Union–within the past ten to fifteen days the number of undecided voters has increased to 50 percent. Polls suggests that the public is overwhelmed by the large pool of candidates. Voters indicated that when candidate platforms are made public the decision will be simplified.
Independent Sociological Group polled 800 Yerevan residents 400 of whom had decided their vote. Robert Kocharian received 23 percent of their votes; Karen Demirchian 27-28 percent; Vazgen Manoukian 13 percent; Sergey Badalian 11 percent–Aram Sargssian 5.1 percent; and David Shahnazarian three percent.
Those polled expressed most interest in candidates’ economic and social programs; resolution of national issues; stance on the Karabakh settlement process; and plans for the establishment of democracy. Respondents prioritized candidates’ honesty–as well as management skills–political will–and the ability to unify the nation.
