
On Saturday January 19, 2019, the Melkonian Global Overture will be hosting a short film contest presentation, and a Panel Discussion followed by a benefit Concert at UCLA.
The theme of the Day will be “Armenian roots and language: connection, disconnection, longing and the Future”. MGO invites young filmmakers to create a 3 to 5-minute short film expressing their point of view and thoughts on the theme. The Panel of Judges will consist of Sev Ohanian, Natalie Qasabian, Vahe Berberian, Peter Cowe, Albert Kodagolian and Nazie Kodjian.
MGO will recognize the 50th anniversary of Narekatsi Armenian Language studies at UCLA during the Panel discussion while deliberating the topic of the day. Dr. Razmik Panossian, Director of Armenian Communities department at Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation will moderate the Panel discussion which will be organized by The Narekatsi chair and & Faculty as well as the faculty of of Richard Hovannisian endowed chair in Modern Armenian History. Students will take part in the discussion as well.
The Final segment of the day will be an Epic Benefit Concert held in UCLA’s Royce Hall.
Armenian Pops Symphony Orchestra Directed by Maestro Greg Hosharian will collaborate with a Rock band and classical Armenian instruments to present a Rock and hip-hop infused upbeat Armenian Music. Featured artists include Ayline Amirayan, Alene Aroustamian, R-mean, TInie T, Hovig Demirjian, Jon Varo, Drummer Jacob Armen, and dance group Choreographed by Mihran Kirakosian.
With the support of the community MGO hopes to lift up and fill the youth with love of Armenian language, culture and Art, while raising funds for educational programs including the Narekatsi chair, and Padus Araxes Cultural Association and Funds for MGO’s scholarship fund.
