BAKU (Trend)—The new US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar promised to do everything possible for Azerbaijan to become even a more powerful state with a developed economy and less dependent on the energy sector. The new envoy made this announcement upon arriving in Baku Tuesday to begin his tenure.
In his new role the ambassador promised to cooperate with Azerbaijan, which, according to Morningstar, is a very important partner for the United States.
The ambassador said he was looking forward to working with the Government of Azerbaijan, as well as become familiar with the Azerbaijani people and the country as a whole.
Among the areas that will be given special attention, he called the strengthening of regional security and democratic development in Azerbaijan and working together to combat terrorism and energy cooperation.
During the Senate hearings in June Morningstar also noted that in the case of the appointment he will be working closely with the OSCE Minsk Group and the government of Azerbaijan for the speedy and peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
“I am delighted to be back in Azerbaijan, in a new way this time”, said the Ambassador upon arrival, adding that he had visited Baku more than once since 1995, Morningstar is familiar with the region. Prior to his appointment as ambassador to Azerbaijan the 67-year-old diplomat served as Special Representative of the Secretary of State for Eurasian Energy.
