The Armenian Relief Society Western Regional Executive Committee announced on Jan. 16 the founding of the East San Fernando Valley chapter in North Hollywood.
The new chapter was named "Meghri" as suggested by its members. The 27th chapter of the ARS Western Region vowed to develop into an energetic and hardworking chapter.
On the same day–14 novices were sworn-in as ARS members–after being familiarized with the objectives and by-laws of the organization. The oaths were officiated by Regional Executive vice-chairperson Mary Arabian. Helen Keosian and Anahid Meimarian from the Regional Executive were also present. Representing the ARF Western Region Central Committee was Charl Lousararian–and representing the Papken Souni Gomideh was Shoushig Avakian.
The ARS oath pledges the following: "I vow to remain loyal to the Armenian Relief Society and its Western Regional Body–to fulfill its goals and respect all aspects of the by-laws."
The ARS is a self-run–non-governmental humanitarian organization–that attends to the needs of the Armenian people and strives to maintain the individualism of the Armenian culture.
