A Pan-Armenian Games delegation honors Kevork Chavoush in Moush
A second torch for the upcoming Pan-Armenian Games was lit on Sunday at Khor Virap by Armenian Olympic gold medalist Artur Aleksanyan, who use the flame from St. Gregory the Illuminator church.
The first torch was lit last week during a ceremony held at the Holy Mother of God Armenian Church in Vakif, a village on the foothills of Mousa Ler in modern-day Turkey and what is historically part of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia.
A third torch will be lit at Tigranakert in Artsakh and together with the other two will be headed to the Stepanakert National Sports Complex where the Pan-Armenian Games will kick off on August 5.
Members of the Pan-Armenian Games delegation that lit the first torch at Mousa Ler continued trek through historic Armenia by visiting Moush where they laid flowers on the grave of national liberation movement hero and Armenian Revolutionary Federation leader Kevork Chavoush.
The delegation was welcomed by Moush mayor Feyat Asyan who said that the visit was very important. The chairman of the Pan-Armenian Games committee Ishkhan Zakaryan presented an overview of the games and also extended an official invitation to Mayor Asyan. He also presented a memento made by Armenian artisans.
On the road from the Moush Valley to Gars, the delegation stopped at the Souloukh bridge and threw roses in the Aradzan river in memory of Kevork Chavoush and his comrades in arms who were martyred in 1907 on that road.
