YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The fourth Pan-Armenian Games kicked off during opening ceremonies Saturday at the Republic Stadium.
More than 2,500 athletes from 94 cities paraded around the track of the stadium, carrying the flags of the countries they represented.
Some of the cities represented were Stepanakert, Shoushi, Tehran, Isfahan, Paris, Los Angeles, Moscow, Kiev, Tblisi, Akhalkalak, Ninodzminde, Krasnodar, Vienna, Manchester, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Long Beach, Marseilles, Istanbul, Frankfurt, Nice, Sofia, Beirut and many other cities from around the world.
President Robert Kocharian welcomed the athletes, guests and other officials, wishing them success throughout the competition.
The Pan-Armenian torch was lit by 1992 Barcelona Olympic champion Hrachia Bedikian.
Various popular singers performed during the opening ceremonies, which concluded with fire works.
