YEREVAN (Armenpress)–A 21-year-old Russian serviceman patrolling Armenia’s border with Turkey had been shot to death by Turkish guards on Sunday.
The Russian guard–Anatoly Zyablikov–disobeyed orders and crossed over to the Turkish side of the border after a group of Turkish guards offered him cigarettes–said Lt. Gen. Mikhail Naimilo–commander of the Russian border guards.
One of the Turkish troops then shot Zyablikov with an automatic rifle–Naimilo said.
The Russian side has issued a protest to the Turkish government–and a joint Russian-Turkish investigation is under way–Naimilo said.
