MOSCOW (News.am)—The Russian Federation should recognize the independent statehood of the Nagorno-Karabakh republic, the Vice Speaker of the Russian State Duma told the Latvian Neatkarigas Rita Avize Newspaper on Monday.
Vladimir Zhirinovski, who also serves as the chairman of the Liberal-Democratic Party of Russia, told the newspaper in an interview that Russia’s official recognition of Karabakh’s independence was the only logical way to end the nearly two decade long conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“I am neither against Armenia nor against Azerbaijanis. But they will never come to terms on Nagorno-Karabakh just as Georgian will never come to terms with Abkhazians, and Arabs with Jews. Never! Kurds and Turks will never come to terms!” Zhirinovski said.
According to him, Russia has been supporting the independence of Karabakh, Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Transdnietria for the last 16 years. “Russia has been calling for the recognition of all the entities that were unwilling to remain part of the former Soviet republics,” Zhirinovski said.
Then what are they waiting for????? They should indeed recognize it; especially when Russia’s Stalin gave it away shamelessly to the Tatars, today’s so called Azeris out of shamefully selling our lands to the Turks to make concessions with Mustafa kemal. Artsakh’s lands and much more were Armenian lands for centuries. We sure need them to be recognized, less they wish to see more Armenian blood shed.
Hello Russia, is anybody listening to Zhirinovski?
Mr. Zhirinovski is Russia’s voice of nationalism. He has also claimed that Armenia should be the first to recognize NKR. Unless Azerbaijan attacks Armenia/Artsakh Russia will not be the first to recognize Artsakh. The ball is in our court, but our nation’s leaders don’t have the balls to do anything about it because they are still trying to play a balancing act with the West… Besides, Moscow already unofficially recognizes Artsakh’s independence. Without Russian support we would have lost Artsakh a very long time ago…
Russia has at least one truly speaking politician who is indeed also a great personality. That is Vladimir Zhirinovski, the Vice Speaker of the Russian National Duma.
Hello Armenia?
Why you don’t recognize your own land first?
How many billion cubic feet of gas wood that act be worth? Zhirinovski speaks for himself only and not for Russian government…
This guy is a flip-flopper. Don’t even believe a word that comes out of his mouth. Next week he might state that Artsakh should be part of Azerbaijan.
