YEREVAN—World-Famous Armenian-American singer–songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist for System Of A Down, Serj Tankian, has officially confirmed he will be performing in Yerevan on Thursday August 12, RFE/RL reported Thursday.
The concert will take place in Yerevan’s Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex. It is set to begin at: 7:00PM. Tickets are on sale with the price ranging 4-50 thousand AMD.
“Serzh Tankian will perform with six other musicians and will be accompanied by classical musicians from the Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia, which will create an interesting combination of rock and classical music,” head of the Deem Communications Company Raffi Niziblyan told a press conference Thursday.
The concert is being organized by Fugitive Studios (USA) and Deem Communications (Armenia), with support and exclusive partnership from Armenian mobile operator, VivaCell-MTS.
According to the Armenian Observer Blog, rumors about a Tankian concert in Armenia have been circulating since 2007. “[System of a Down] and Tankian fans waited patiently through consecutive years of rumors, learning to mistrust. A couple of months ago, when I heard yet again, that one of my top-favorite singers is to give a concert in Yerevan, I nodded with skepticism,” said Artur Papyan, who runs the blog.
An official announcement by Fugitive Studios, however, quelled Papyan’s skepticism. “[They explained] how this time is different and why the concert is actually going to take place. So be it, our star – Serzh Tankian, will be in the order at Hamalir this August, and gosh, I’m happy about that!”
