BUENOS AIRES–The Armenian National Committee of South America honored Chilean Senator Ricardo Nunes Munos, the author of the Chilean Senate resolution recognizing the Genocide. On June 5, the Chilean Senate unanimously passed the resolution.
The reception took place last Thursday at Armenian Center in Buenos Aires and was attended by Armenia’s ambassador to Argentina Vladimir Karmirshalian. Also present were local and federal officials from Argentina and Chile, including Chile’s ambassador to Argentina.
In his remarks, ANC South America chairman Dr. Hagop Tabakian praised the senator for “not making the 21st century, the century of forgetting and loss of values and instead made it the century of recognizing the Genocide and remembrance of its victims.”
Chile’s Ambassador to Argentina Osvaldo Mayra Aguirre also praised Sen. Munos for his efforts on recognizing the crime against humanity.
Armenian Revolutionary Federation Bureau member Mario Nalbandian, praised the senator, as well as the entire Chilean Senate for advocating for the rights of the Armenian people.
After receiving an honorary plaque, Sen. Munos thanked the ANC of South America and in remarks said: “The tragedy of the Armenian people is a crime against humanity. If we allow the past to cover up principles, if we allow the revision of history, we, too, will be accomplices in injustice.”
