BURJASSOT, Spain (ArmRadio)—The city council of Burjassot, in the Valencian Community, Spain, approved a bill officially recognizing the Armenian Genocide and condemning crimes against humanity committed by Ottoman Turkey from 1915 to 1921.
The petition reads: “This year marks the centennial of the Armenian Genocide, which is considered to be the first genocide of the twentieth century. Massacres and deportations of Armenians were committed in 1915-1921 on the territory of today’s Turkey, in particular, under the rule of the Young Turks, resulting in killings of 1.5 million Armenians, and the deportation of almost 2 million more, forming a large Armenian Diaspora.”
