TBILISI—Responding to the call of His Holiness Catholicos Karekin II to help fellow Armenians in Syria, Armenians in Tbilisi, organizing a variety of events, have raised funds to help Syrian Armenians.
The Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to Georgia, the “Hayartun” Cultural Center at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, Gary Davtian Puppet and Cultural House, online magazine Armenian Art Hall, non-governmental organization Community of Armenians in Georgia, the Georgian branch of the International Association of the Pan-Armenian Games, the clergy of the Diocese, businessmen, artists and the members of the Tbilisi Armenian community participated in the charitable activities.
5000 U.S. dollars donated in total, with the blessings and through the mediation of the Primate of the Diocese, Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, were transferred to the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin has already contributed 200 thousand U.S. dollars to the Syrian Armenian Relief Fund and delivered another 200 thousand U.S. dollars, of which the donations of the Armenian community of Georgia made a small portion.
This is very impressive. Tbilisi Armenians are largely not from Syria and helped Syrian Armenians – there is hope for us as a people after all. We can only be strong though our unity, that is the absolute first step.
