The President of Armenia Serzh Sarkisian, the President’s Chief of Staff Vigen Sargsyan, the President of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia Gagik Tsarukian, and Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Yuri Vardanian attended the opening of the Olympic Games.
The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin opened the ceremony. Well-known opera singer Anna Netrebko performed the Olympic Anthem.
98 medals in 15 sports will be awarded in Sochi for the Winter Olympic Games. The closing ceremony of the games will take place on February 23.
This is what matt lauer (NBC) the ultimate idiot said on national TV about Team Armenia and in the esprit of Olympics. How low and degrading one can get with absolute arrogance and then wondering why people of the world does not like our country and why they are calling us stupid Loud arrogant Americans
“Maybe it is the right time as ARMENIA marches into the stadium, though they have not won a medal in winter games either, but you have to remember that a lot of athletes you are going to see here tonight know that they are not going to win a medal. That is not really why they are here. They are here for the Olympic experience and for many of these athletes this is the moment. They hope to have participated in the event and have a great run or a great time and marching into the stadium right now to the roar of the crowd and the flash cubes and the flashes going off. This is what they are going to be talking to their kids and grand children about in the years to come.”
The following is what Matt Lauer the NBC reporter said once team Armenia entered the stadium:

SHAME ON YOU MATT LAUER……. GO TEAM ARMENIA!!!!!!!!! GO ARMAN SEREBRAKIAN!!!!!!!!!!
Armenia rocks and I’m not Armenian but I wish I was
Armenians r great at gymnastics and Armenian dances and songs are very difficult and they r really nice
Shame in you Matt Lauer.
I hope u realise that Armenia once was a part of USSR a communist country.
And before they became they became dependant all Armenian Olympians were represented as Russia.
So yes Armenians have won quite a few olympic medals but under the Russian team as Armenia was not allowed to represent them selves a a country under the communism.
I’m Armenian and proud and even more excited to see them represent the country. Regardless of whether they take medals home is not an issue. It’s all about the moment and experience that allot of athletes who wish the dream cannot.
