President Donald Trump has named Michael E. Kavoukjian as the new U.S. Ambassador to Norway. He made the announcement in a post on the X social media platform.
“Michael is a brilliant attorney, who currently serves as a Senior Partner at White & Case, where he has led complex commercial litigation teams around the World. He previously served our Country as a CIA Operations Officer. Michael is a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School,” Trump said in his post.

The New York Times reported that Kavoukjian is a major donor to the Republican Party. Records show he donated nearly $700,000 to the Trump campaign apparatus during the 2024 election cycle.
As an attorney, Kavoukjian has represented leading families and financial institutions worldwide in estate planning and fiduciary litigation. From 1994 to 1998 he worked for the U.S. government, where his duties included acting as a special adviser to the U.S. Mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Kavoukjian is a founding member of the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a member of the Board of Overseers of the Hoover Institution, as well as a director of the Jamestown Foundation.
