YEREVAN (Yerkir)–Scotland’s Edinburgh City Council chairman Donald Anderson revealed the council is set to consider in October official recognition of the Armenian genocide–and added that "the events of 1915 are a genocide."
The move sparked outrage among members of the Scottish capital’s Turkish community. Anderson has received letters both from representatives of Edinburgh’s Turkish community–as well as Turkey’s ambassador to the United Kingdom–protesting the decision.
In his responses–Anderson said that he has studied the issue–and holds no doubt that the Armenia’s were subjected to genocide by the Ottoman Empire.
