STEPANAKERT (Azg daily) – According to Karabakh officials–as a result of recent changes in the spheres of healthcare and public education–an estimated 1,800 jobs have been eliminated in Nagorno-Karabakh. Unemployment is becoming a major economic problem in Karabakh–whose population equals the number of a few communities in Yerevan. Many residents of Karabakh are leaving the Republic– hindering the development of social and economic infrastructure of the country.
The Stepanakert City Administration–in response to the current situation–has announced the establishment of a charity canteen for the poor and unemployed. According to officials–those needing assistance should provide the center with a list of family members–before the operators of the center can provide them with food and other nutritional products.
It is expected that such projects will be undertaken in other administrative areas of Nagorno-Karabakh. The Karabakh National Assembly also declared that funds collected by the "Ardarutiun" (Fairness) bloc of the Assembly will be distributed to the poor.
