Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Monday met with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi on the margins of the United National Human Rights Council in Geneva.
The two top diplomats exchanged views on regional developments. They touched upon efforts aimed at ensuring stability and lasting peace in the South Caucasus, according to a press statement from Armenia’s Foreign Ministry.
Reference was made to the unblocking of regional economic and transport communications based on unconditional respect for the fundamental principles of international law, the statement said.
The parties emphasized the willingness of the two countries to take practical steps towards the continuous development of cooperation. The work carried out in various sectors and upcoming programs were discussed.
The peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan was also a topic of discussion between Iran’s Vice-President Mohammad Javad Zarif and Armenia’s Ambassador to Iran, Grigor Hakobyan during a meeting on Monday in Tehran.
Zarif pointed out that the the potential of the region potential could be tapped to iron out domestic concerns, saying that the peace talks between Baku and Yerevan could become a key factor in regional peace.
The Iranian leader also underscored that it was critical to enhance inter-regional synergies and leverage communication conduits within the established legal and regulatory paradigms.
