YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The opening of the Yerevan-Brussels-Los Angeles direct flight has been postponed. Chief of the Head Department of Civil Aviation (HDCA) Hovhannes Yeritsian said the date when the agreement signed between Armenian Airlines (AAL) and Belgian VG Airlines that was to go into effect expired on April 29. It has been postponed for an uncertain period of time.
According to Yeritsian–the Belgian side has no objections in connection with the agreement–but the Armenian side–namely the Ministry of Justice–has exposed a number of omissions in the document. In particular–the agreement says that in case of refusal to continue flights the sides are to notify each other 8 months in advance–however–it is unclear how they should act if AAL cannot make the requirement pre-payment before the flight. There is also a problem connected with the Armenian crew that will not participate in flights for the upcoming 2 months. It was also suggested that two–rather than three flights be organized per week.
