YEREVAN (Yerkir)–In a moving ceremony Sunday–one of the founders of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Simon Zavarian’s remains were re-buried in the Aygehad village.
Zavarian–who is considered the ARF’s moral soul–died in 1913. His body was moved from Constantinople (Istanbul) to Tiflis (Tbilisi) and was buried in the Khodjavank cemetery there.
The decision to bring Zavarian’s remains back to Armenia was taken by the ARF Executive Council of Armenia–whose representative Vahan Hovanessian addressed the hundreds gathered at the Zavarian ancestral plot in Aygehad village.
On this occasion–a special pledge ceremony took place–during which 108 new members were inducted into the ran’s of the ARF–marking the political party’s 108th anniversary.
