YEREVAN—Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said there will not be a resolution to the Karabakh conflict if it is not acceptable to the people of Armenia and Artsakh and its government.
Pashinyan was responding to a statement made by U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton who, while visiting Yerevan last week, said that Pashinyan’s victory in the upcoming snap parliamentary elections would be a good opportunity for the government to take “decisive action” toward a resolution of the Karabakh conflict.
“You know, everyone speaks on their own behalf. John Bolton speaks for himself,” Pashinyan told reporters Saturday outside of a ceremony marking the 19th anniversary of the terrorist attack on Armenia’s parliament.
“John Bolton, or anyone for that matter, cannot speak on my behalf. Let me say, that there cannot be a resolution [of the Karabakh conflict] if it is not acceptable to the people of Armenia, Artsakh and the government of Artsakh,” emphasized Pashinyan.
“In terms of a universal resolution of the issue, it is clear that any solution should also be acceptable for the people of Azerbaijan,” said Pashinyan who stressed the need for transparency in the process.
“People are still driven by old habits; as in the times when they used to make decisions behind closed doors and advance things behind the people’s backs. We don’t prescribe to this approach, because, I don’t know how they did it in the past, but I don’t think that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can be resolved by any one person, or any government or by me or a prime minister,” said Pashinyan.
“The ones who determine whether to resolve or not resolve the Karabakh conflict are the Armenian people, and specifically the people of Armenia, the people of Artsakh and in this case also the Diaspora, because this is a Pan-Armenian issue,” said Pashinyan.
“They are moving forward with the logic that they have some kind of ownership of the Karabakh issue, and now they are attempting to sell it to me, without asking my opinion,” emphasized Pashinyan in an apparent reference to Bolton and other forces attempting to secure concessions from him. “The Armenian people will resolve the conflict.”
American officials are war criminals and they only serve the interests of the Zionist state. Therefore, American officials and their war toys are not welcome in Armenia. No one, including Nikol and his Western funded cohorts, will be able to drive a wedge between Russia and Armenia. Russia and Armenia are locked in an embrace no one can break. No Russia in Armenia = no Armenia in the south Caucasus. No Armenia in the south Caucasus = no Russia in the strategic south Caucasus. Russians and Armenians have been natural allies for two hundred-plus years and will remain allies for well into the foreseeable future. God bless Russia. God bless Armenia. And may God help protect Russo-Armenian friendship from all enemies both foreign and domestic.
You need to calm down:
“Nikol and his Western funded cohorts”–do you have any facts?
Surely, we need to maintain and develop good relations with Russia. Note though, that Russia always has and will act in her own interests, including sacrifice Armenia, if that’s what’s needed.
“God bless Russia”? Please.. It is true the Americans are complete Zionist screw, but Russia is screw light. They sell Azerbaijan military hardware worth billions that are used on Armenians. And Russia will do what ever suits itself and if that means the detriment of Armenia so be it.. Do you not think Russia knew about the April 2016 war? And didn’t warn Armenia? OF course it did. The illegal Treaty of Kars that gave away Artsakh and Nakichivan was between Russia and Turkey..How do you bless that. No, instead. God bless the Armenian Army that protects it. Our own unity is the only answer. It always has been. One Armenia, Artsakh and diaspora…Trust no one.
I have been through second world war, revolution attempts and last revolution in Iran. This is for Mr. Pashinyan, US and English governments ousted Reza Shah, later on Mosadegh then Mohamed Reza Pahlavi with a stroke of pen. Hope they will not do the same to him, with the help of Russia. I hope with all my heart that Artsakh will be recognized by the world.
Mr. Pashinyan I support your decision fully, Armenian people will always be behind you and will support your decision. The question remains is how to deal with superpowers. They have their agenda , and are still making decisions which effects the life of others for generations. Armenians of course want the hard earned independance of Armenia and Artsakh. You have raised a very important question.we need to explain to our foes and allies why is it so important to us not to loose anymore precious of our land while so much of it was taken from us 100 years ago.
Trump and his thugs love dictatorships, especially Turkey, Russia and Azerbaijan, to name a few.
Armenia is stuck between monsters. The beloved Obama administration didn’t lift a finger to improve US-Armenia relations much nor it had the guts to recognize the Armenian Genocide. So much for the American hypocracy.
The only way out for Armenia is self reliance and improvement of political, military and economic relationships with other powers like China, Japan, Scandinavian countries, etc.
To heck with the Russians or the Americans.
Russians have a self interest in Armenia existince
Slow down kiddo
Well said Prime Minister. Adding to hisnreapinse to BOLTON, US government is one of the last to even give Armenia any advice. They need to first get off Turkey’s ban wagon and take moral, ethical, and historic responsibility towards Armenian genocide recognition. Unfortunately, what ever they point at, the intention serves the perpetrators. It’s a common denominator in the US forigen policy, meant to satisfy expectations of its NATO ally and in the recent decades the oil rich and rival of Iran and Russia, Azerbaijan.
It’s a shame since Armenia never ruled US out, when it comes to friendship and what it get in return is shady approach from Washington to force Armenia to align itself with plans that serve anyone but Armenia.
Pashimian knows well who we are dealing with and he was always prepared, I think.
For Bolton and the US the big nightmare is Iran, they would love to invade Iran or cause a major disruption there and one way to do that is through Armenia. Armenia could become the theater for US proxy war like the ones in Yemen or Syria or Iraq. They will first destroy the country and then once they are done with whatever they think they need they will abandon Armenia and leave without a moment’s hesitation.
We should help out Palestinians
The same way isra eli hands are covered in Armenians blood
I agree.
