Armadi Tsayn, a contemporary folk ensemble based in Boston, is performing in concert on September 14 with Oud master John Berberian at the Mosesian Center in Watertown, MA.
The concert, titled “Echoes of Armenia,” will also feature RazAvaz, a world fusion band.
Armadi Tsayn, which translates to “Sounds/Voice of the Roots,” focuses on the sounds of Western Armenia and music from the Middle East and North Africa.
The Oud is a descendant of the guitar and is commonly used throughout cultures in the Caucasus and Middle East. Berberian, who is a virtuoso player of this instrument, was born in the United States to Armenian immigrant parents and recorded for a variety of labels including MGM, RCA, Roulette, Verve and Mainstream Records during the 1960s and 1970s.
The event is sponsored by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, the Armenian Museum of America, and the Watertown Cultural Council.
