MONTROSE—The Crescenta Valley Armenian Community & Youth Center with the Armenian National Committee of America, Crescenta Valley Chapter and the CV Community Outreach Committee, will host Congressman Adam Schiff to the Crescenta Valley Armenian-American community in a Town Hall gathering on the afternoon of Sunday, January 15, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Armenian Community & Youth Center in Montrose, 2633 Honolulu Avenue.
The new lines drawn by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission have included Crescenta Valley communities in Schiff’s new district. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) would represent all of Burbank, Glendale, La Crescenta and La Canada Flintridge under the proposed map, as well as a string of communities along the Foothill (210) Freeway.
“The Town Hall community gathering is an opportunity for the leaders and members of the Crescenta Valley and Foothill communities to approach the Congressman with their concerns and questions,” commented ANC-Crescenta Valley Board member Hrayr Sabounjian.
The Crescenta Valley Armenian Community & Youth Center is calling on members of the Crescenta Valley Armenian-American and other communities to have a strong presence at the gathering so that they may meet the congressman and use the opportunity to discuss any prevailing issues with him.
“We urge anyone who has an interest in the Crescenta Valley communities to attend, as only a diverse group of attendees would accurately represent the Foothills communities and signal to the congressman the wide range of issues that have been afflicting the residents,” said CV Community Outreach Board member Vahag Chobanian.
Armenian-American political activists, volunteers, members of neighborhood councils, business leaders and entrepreneurs, students from local Armenian and public schools, and older residents who use community services are all urged to attend.
“For years now, Congressman Schiff has stood by the Armenian American communities he serves, sponsoring the Armenian Genocide Resolution in the House and supporting us on a host of other issues. Meeting him, sharing with him concerns dear to our areas and introducing him to our community is certainly thrilling and beneficial,” said the Crescenta Valley Armenian Community & Youth Center Chairman Arick Gevorkian.
The ANC-CV and CV Outreach Committees promote greater understanding of issues of concern to the area’s Armenian American community and strives to increase Armenian American civic participation at the grassroots and public policy levels.
