BURBANK—The Burbank Police Department conducts English and Spanish community academies twice a year for those who live or work in the City of Burbank. In January, the Burbank Police Department will be offering two new academies: an Armenian Academy and an academy for the Hearing Impaired. These academies are a terrific opportunity for the Burbank Police Department to reach out to its diverse community and allow individuals to get a behind-the-scenes look at the personnel and operations of the Department.
For seven weeks, participants interact with the officers from the various bureaus and assignments of the Department. Presentation topics include the criminal justice system, training, traffic control, patrol and detective functions, air support unit, the Special Weapons and Tactics team, police K-9s, and much more. Participants who graduate from the community academy may be eligible to become a Burbank Police Department volunteer.
The Armenian and Hearing Impaired academies begin on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 and conclude on February 27, 2013. Meetings take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Burbank Police Station, and conclude at approximately 8:30 p.m. There is no charge for the community academy. Applicants are subject to a background check.
Applications may be picked up at the Police Department or downloaded on-line http://bit.ly/VzT5x5 and should be returned no later than January 9, 2013. Space is limited. Applying early is recommended.
