ANC of South America Meets Swiss Diplomats over Court Ruling

BUENOS AIRES (Agencia Prensa Armenia)—The Armenian National Committee of South America (CNA) held a series of meetings with Swiss representatives in Argentina and Uruguay to express the community’s concern regarding the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights in the case of “Perincek vs Switzerland.” The CNA handed a letter to every Swiss representative, stressing the “damaging consequences that this ruling could bring, not only for the fight for recognition of the Armenian Genocide, but also for the rules and principles of international law regarding human rights.”

“That is why we respectfully ask the Swiss State, through you, to appeal the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights,” added the letter.

On Feb. 13, the CNA of Uruguay met with the Swiss ambassador to Uruguay, Didier Pfirter, who was fully aware of the Armenian issue and the just rights and claims of the Armenian people. In Pfirter’s words, he has been interested for years in the issues related to the Armenian Genocide. The Ambassador promised to deliver the letter to his government.

On Feb. 14, the CNA of Buenos Aires, Argentina, handed the letter to the Swiss ambassador in Argentina, Johannes Matyassy. On Feb. 20, the CNA of Córdoba, a province of Argentina, met with the Honorary Consul of Switzerland in Córdoba, Dr. Ricardo J. Rysler, submitting their letter as well as a copy of an interview that Prensa Armenia conducted with Dr. Sévane Garibian.
