YEREVAN (Arka)—Igor Klimko, former CEO of ArmenTel, a subsidiary of Russia’s VimpelCom in Armenia, is being sought by the police on suspicion of financial abuse amounting to 10 to 15 billion drams ($24.5 to $36.7 million), Armenia’s PastInfo reports.
Klimko, who was appointed as ArmenTel CEO in April 2010, left the office unexpectedly in early 2013 without waiting for completion of his term in office and immediately departed from Armenia.
The press office of Armenia’s National Security Service confirmed the ongoing investigation, but refrained from revealing details.
PastInfo news agency’s informal sources say Klimko has been wanted since February 2014.
According to the agency, another suspect, a former employee of ArmenTel, has been arrested abroad and is likely to be extradited to Armenia.
ArmenTel CJSC, a subsidiary of Russian VimpelCom (trading as Beeline), provides landline and mobile telecommunication and Internet services.
