The Azeri citizens were given letters from their families, with return messages sent with ICRC.
According to Azeri news agency APA, the ICRC Azeri Office spokesperson refused to comment on the court hearings, noting that the Red Cross is not a source of information on the issue.
Shahbaz Guliyev and Dilgam Askerov are undergoing trial in Stepanakert. The two Azeri commandos were caught making an incursion into Armenian territory (Karvachar) in the summer. The third commando, Hasan Hasanov, was killed, and his body was handed over to Baku earlier in October. The actions of the commando group left an underage resident of Karvachar and an Armenian serviceman killed, as well as one woman wounded.
A video containing footage of Armenian POW Hakob Injighulyan’s interrogation and mistreatment in Baku was found in Askerov’s video camera. The saboteur was unable to explain how the footage was obtained.
As Defense Ministry spokesman Artsrun Hovhannisyan stated in a Facebook post earlier this week, “A video recording is available clearly showing the violence used against Injighulyan, which was a means of forcing him into making false statements. It also accurately identifies the Azerbaijani saboteurs, who allegedly ‘visited their relatives’ graves.’”
Prosecute them for the murders they committed and lock them up then throw away the key. Case closed.
What I would like to know is, why are these terrorists called “commandos” and not by their real title, government sent terrorists. Could there be legal reasons? These cases are opportunities for the worldwide Armenian media to show the world that terrorism is not just happening in the mid east, but also the south Caucasus, but we are not far-sighted enough and not cunning enough, as one group of people I can name.
I don’t know if NK republic has the death penalty for Capital Offenses, but if they are convicted, it should be after an impeccable trial run according to Western legal standards. However, whatever the sentence, it should be public and well publicized. No antiseptic behind the curtain injection or strangulation that no one sees. It should be public, published in advance and well covered on Television. That will do so many positive things for the NK republic. Public awareness of the very existence of the republic and the issues, and a very real psychological impact on future such acts. And by the way, upon return, the corpses should be wrapped and embalmed in ‘Pig’ fat. Unless the family of the convicted criminals wish to pay for a proper Muslim “halal” corpse preparation. Such payment should include an amount to the families of the Armenian victims, equal to the customary amount payable in the culture of the perpetrators.
