GLENDALE – The Armenian Youth Federation Western United States (AYF-WUS) is now accepting applications for the 2016 Nanor Krikorian Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded annually to graduating high school seniors and college students of Armenian descent to help further their academic aspirations.
In its fourteenth year, the Nanor Krikorian Scholarship is granted to ambitious students who exemplify high quality work ethic, academic excellence, dedication to public service, and passionate involvement in the Armenian community. Four scholarships are granted to high school seniors, including one $1000 scholarship, one $500 scholarship, and two $250 scholarships. Two $500 scholarships are awarded to current college students.
In addition to an application form, and two letters of recommendation, applicants are required to write an essay about an issue they see facing Armenia and/or the Diaspora today and how they think they can utilize their college degree and/or their career plans to help resolve that issue.
“This year, for the first time since the scholarship became available 14 years ago, the Education Central Council has completely revamped the application,” said Carla Kekejian, a previous scholarship winner and current AYF-WUS Central Educational Council member. “Through a revised scholarship application process, and specifically, through an entirely new essay prompt, we hope to challenge students to think creatively, critically, and analytically about issues facing Armenia and the Diaspora.”
Applications are available on the AYF website at http://ayfwest.org/programs/scholarship/. A completed application packet with all supplementary documents, including letters of recommendation, must be mailed to the AYF office (104 N. Belmont Street, Suite 313, Glendale, CA 91206), or submitted online by April 30th. No application submitted after the deadline will be accepted.
