FRESNO—The Armenian Museum of Fresno will be celebrating, Armenian author and activist, Levon Shant’s 150th birthday. Join Zangagadoun Literary and Musical Group in commemorating the life and contributions of the prominent educator and author. The cultural night dedicated to Levon Shant will take place on Friday, June 21 at 7 p.m., at 550 E. Shaw Ave., Fresno, CA 93710.
Former Deputy Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, founding member of Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Society, and founding principal of Nshan Palandjian Jemaran, Levon Shant dedicated his life to the Armenian Cause.
A permanent member of “Vernadun” Literary Group, which had formed at the turn of the 20th century in Tbilisi, Georgia, Levon Shant often met with individuals of similar caliber. Vernadun members included: Hovhaness Toumanian, Ghazaros Aghaian, Nikol Aghbalian, Avedik Isahagian and Terenik Demerjian. Influential group of Armenian intellectuals composed of authors, poets, musicians, literary critics, historians, linguists and artists. From time to time, guests would be invited to attend the meetings at Vernadun. These individuals included: Gomidas Vartabed, Berj Broshian, Mouratsan, Vrdanes Papazian, Aleksander Shervanzate, Kevork Bashinchaghian, Panus Terlemezian, Vartges Sureniants and others.
