The Russian defense ministry said on Tuesday that Azerbaijani forces on Monday fired shots that injured two soldiers of the Artsakh Defense Army.
“The Azerbaijani side fired at the positions of the armed forces of Nagorno-Karabakh in the Shushi region, as a result of which two people were injured,” the Russian defense ministry statement said.
The statement also said that the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent is investigating this incident with the Azerbaijani side.
Azerbaijani forces on Monday violated the ceasefire in western region of Artsakh as a result of which two soldiers of the Artsakh Defense Army were injured, according to the defense ministry, adding that Azerbaijani forces used various caliber weapons and grenades to attack Armenian positions in Artsakh.
While the specific area of the attack was not mentioned by the Artsakh defense ministry, however, Lachin is located in the western region of Artsakh.
Azerbaijan’s defense ministry claimed on Monday that Artsakh forces had opened fire on Azerbaijani positions in the Shushi, Martuni and Askeran regions.
Monday’s attack on Armenian positions follows sporadic shooting and targeting of civilians by Azerbaijani armed forces during the past several weeks. A farmer was injured and another farmer’s equipment was damaged during the sporadic attacks.
