YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan) — The final version of a proposal on a joint Armenian-French emergency training program is expected to be submitted to the French parliament for approval soon.
The program has already been approved by Armenia–Hamlet Matevossian–director of the Institute of Staff Training of the State Emergency Management Administration–reported.
A French delegation led by Prefect Nenvel de Roche and Jean-Claude Tresensom–chairman of the National Department on Civil Defense–is currently visiting Armenia to develop the program and discuss related problems. The French-sponsored program will be implemented by the Council of Europe–and will consist of two parts. The first part calls for an exchange of French prefects (magistrates) and Armenian governors for training purposes. The second part calls for the training of Armenian rescue teams in France.
The program will begin in October of 1997.
