BAKU (Itar-Tass)–Azeri Foreign Minister Hassan Hassanov Wednesday described Monday’s presidential elections in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic as "a political show."
In an interview with reporters he said that the Azeri foreign ministry did not make an official statement on the elections because "this action is an internal affair of his country– not an international event."
The Azeri Parliament and the Central Electoral Commission had described the Karabakh polls as "illegal and invalid" prior to the elections.
Commenting on remarks by the newly-elected President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Arkady Ghoukassian–Hassanov did not rule out the possibility of direct talks with Nagorno-Karabakh–stating–however that those talks would be conducted only on the subject of Karabakh’s autonomy status within Azerbaijan.
