YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Deputy Minister of the Interior and National Security–General-Major of Internal Forces Artsrun Margarian was rushed to State Hospital No. 1 for emergency surgery. According to unverified information–he was fired on from a white BMW.
The Interior Ministry was informed of the incident Wednesday at 1:40 pm (local time). An investigative group and officials of the Interior Ministry immediately went to the site of the incident. The state prosecutor’s office began conducting a criminal investigation.
The incident reportedly took place at 1:00 pm near Margarian’s home. An unknown person twice fired at Margarian with an unidentified gun.
At the StateHospital No. 1 reporters were told that Margarian suffered from leg injuries. He was operated on immediately. The surgery lasted seven hours.
General Manager of the hospital–a member of the National Assembly–Artavazd Sahakian reported that the surgery was performed simultaneously by two groups of physicisans–one working on Margarian’s right knee–the other from the State Orthopedic & Trauma Center–on the thigh-bone of the left leg.
Sahakian said that Margarian is recovering as anticipated. His condition is not life-threatening.
This is the third such incident reported in the last four days in Armenia. On Sunday–unidentified persons fired on the car of Presidential Security Serviceman General Roman Ghazarian. On Monday–Yerevan District Leader Rouben Hayrapetian’s car came under fire. On Tuesday–a car bomb was discovered in a car belonging to the Armenian Embassy in Russia.
