YEREVAN–The recent crises in Armenia has prompted a wave of speculations–some bordering on slander–by the press in Armenia.
The most poignant example of such slander was a recent news report in the Yerevan-based pro-government Aravot daily which reported that the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and the Defense Minister of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic were plotting to overthrow Levon Ter-Petrosyan and his regime.
This can be deemed as yet another effort to divert public attention from the real issues and focus them on untruths and innuendo.
Below is the English translation of the said news report:
Last week–an official delegation from the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic visited the Siunik region of Armenia. The delegation was headed by Karabakh Social Services Minister Serjik Aroushanian and Culture Minister Armen Sargsian.
According to information received from sources in the region–the Karabakh delegation met with the Siunik region leadership of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation in Kapan–where on behalf of the defense minister of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic a plan to overthrow Levon Ter-Petrosyan with the aid of opposition forces in Armenia and Karabakh.
The delegation has also presented the same plan to leaders of the region. The Karabakh delegation plans to visit the Gegharkunik region with a similar mission.
