YEREVAN (Armenpress)–After a three-year investigation and a nine-month trial–a court in Kiev concluded a trial of groups associated with hiring mercenaries to fight on the Azeri side against the Karabakh self-defense forces.
The Ukrainian Embassy in Yerevan told Armenpress that the Ukraine National Security Agency had uncovered a group which recruited "soldiers of fortune" from the Ukraine and dispatched to Karabakh to fight alongside Azeri soldiers.
The investigations revealed that Fidel Komar–a Ukrainian businessman–had established two companies called "Rouna-K" and "Vist" which were both registered as engineering and construction companies. Under the guise of construction business–mercenaries would be channeled to Karabakh via Kiev–the Ukraine capital–and Cherkaz.
Komar was sentenced to a nine-year prison term in a maximum security facility and all his assets were seized by the government. Komar’s two accomplices each received six-year prison terms in maximum security facilities.
