YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–President Robert Kocharian has decided to run for a second term. He said that the joint statement of the PPA–Republic party–and National Unity calling for his impeachment–helped motivate his decision.
The president pointed out that–"When I was asked about whether or not I would participate in the next presidential election–I used to give evasive answers or I would avoid such questions–since I had not made up my mind. After the statement was made–I made up my mind and say–’Yes–I will participate’." Kocharian stressed that "there is so much spite in their statement that after–coming to power–such people pose a danger to the country as well–as a spiteful leader will make the whole country spiteful."
