YEREVAN (Armenpress)–An international piano competition will be held in Armenia November 24-30–under the patronage of Armenian President Robert Kocharian and First Lady Bella Kocharian
Thirty-seven pianists from Armenia–Georgia–Ukraine–Belgium–Greece–Syria–the Russian Federation and the US submitted applications to participate in the competition. After a series of auditions–twenty-seven pianists were selected to compete.
The competition will consist of three rounds. Twelve pianists will qualify for the second round; six of the twelve will advance to the final round–scheduled for November 28. On November 30–the participants will give a gala concert.
The competition will award $5,000 to the third place winner–$10,000 to the second place winner and $15,000 to the first place winner. Those pianists who qualify for the final round will be awarded $2,000.
Renowned musicians including Vladimir Kraynev from Russia–Hemish Miln from England–Yuko Yamayoko from Japan–and Daniel Polak from the US comprise the jury.
Proceeds from the individual $100 entry fee will be donated to the Fund for Development of Culture in Armenia.
Eduard Topchian–Igor Yavrian–and Svetlana Navasardian will be represent Armenia in the competition.
