PLOVDIV (ETCC)–The Armenian Women’s Chess Team of Elina Danielian–Lilit Mkrtchian–and Nelly Aginian took the European Team Championships in Plovdiv–Bulgaria–beating the Polish team in the final round 1: 5-1–with an overall result of 13:5.
The final rounds were heated when Russia lost somewhat surprisingly to Hungary–while Armenia’smashed England 2:0 in the eighth round.
Going into the final round–Armenia–Russia– Hungary–and Poland each had 12 match points each. Hungary came in second–while Russia took the third.
On the men’s side–the Russian team of Bareev–Svidler–Grischuk–Morozevich and Khalifman took first place edging out Israel–Georgia finished third.
The championships were held October 10 to 21–with 37 men’s and 31 women’s teams competing.
