SAN DIEGO, Calif.,–Activists from Los Angeles and San Diego joined the Armenian National Committee of America-Western Region (ANCA-WR) at the California Republican Party Convention this past weekend in San Diego.
During the convention delegates and candidates learned about a range of Armenian American issues, from US recognition of the Armenian Genocide to the ongoing destruction of Armenian cultural heritage in Azerbaijan. Many volunteers related their experiences as ANC interns and discussed projects in which they were involved such as voter registration and get out the vote efforts.
ANCA-WR representatives also attended a workshop examining the current challenges in USA foreign policy. As part of the broader discussion regarding USA relations in the region, Turkey’s increasingly belligerent role in the Middle East and Caucasus was noted.
“This was a great opportunity for us to get to know the party base and let them know how we work in communities across California to get Armenian Americans more involved in the political process,” said Jennifer Movsessian, a volunteer for the weekend from Los Angeles.
The Armenian National Committee of America-Western Region is the largest and most influential Armenian American grassroots advocacy organization in the Western United States. Working in coordination with a network of offices, chapters, and supporters throughout the Western United States and affiliated organizations around the country, the ANCA-WR advances the concerns of the Armenian American community on a broad range of issues.
