ENCINO—The Armenian National Committee San Fernando Valley West Chapter (ANCA-SFW) met with California State Senator Fran Pavley who is a candidate in the newly drawn 27th district which represents large parts of the San Fernando Valley.
Meeting on October 22nd, the ANCA-SFW Board was present to greet Pavley and discuss areas of common interest. During their discussions, Pavley affirmed the need to ensure that California remains at the forefront of condemning human rights violations, including the continued recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Sacramento. Noting her tenured experience as a career politician, Pavley also stated that she would lead the charge to forward Armenian-American issues in the State’s capitol.
Senator Pavley is running in the newly redrawn California 27th State Senate district. Its boundaries stretch roughly East from Malibu to Stevenson Ranch and North from Encino to Newbury Park. Although she is the incumbent candidate, the redrawn district represents geographical areas that she has not represented previously. “Pavley, demonstrated great knowledge of the challenges facing the district as well as a strong familiarity with issues of Armenian-American interest” said Nichan Kulukian, ANCA-SFW Board Member, “She is an experienced candidate who can adequately represent the constituency of the 27th district generally, and Armenian-Americans in Sacramento specifically” Kulukian remarked.
Pavley came in a close second in this years’ primary election, trailing Todd Zink by 1% of the vote. Pavley hopes to continue past Zink in the November 6th general election.
Drawing on her political experience, Pavley asserted that she was the best candidate for the job. Pavley has been a long-time resident of the San Fernando Valley. Growing up in Sherman Oaks, Pavley later went on to become a middle school teacher, Agoura Hills Mayor and member of the State Assembly. “It was great to meet with Senator Pavley to talk about her past contributions to the Armenian-American community” remarked Raffi Sarkissian, ANCA-SFW Board Member, “Senator Fran Pavley has received the endorsement of the ANCA-Western Region and we believe she is the right candidate to advocate on behalf of the Armenian American Community of the San Fernando Valley” Sarkissian concluded.
The Armenian National Committee of America, San Fernando Valley West Chapter advances the social, economic, cultural, and political rights of the area’s Armenian American community and promotes increased civic participation at the grassroots and public policy levels.
