YEREVAN (Yerkir)–Members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Nigol Aghbalian Student Organization–and the ARF Youth Organization staged a demonstration outside Armenia’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday–and handed an open letter written to Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) chief Karabagh rapporteur Terry Davis–condemning the killing of the Armenian military officer by an Azeri officer in Budapest.
"We are outraged with the brutal murder of Armenian Lieutenant Gurgen Margarian by an Azeri military officer in Hungary," read the letter.
The Armenian army officer was attending a NATO language training course in Hungary when he was hacked to death in his sleep by an Azeri colleague last Thursday.
The ARF youth stated that the crime is the logical consequence of the anti-Armenian hysteria unleashed by Azeri authorities over the years–and the warmongering propaganda of recent months that inevitably consumes all of Azeri society.
"It is evident that such a state policy has crossed boundaries when officials representing Azerbaijan abroad can commit cold-blooded murder," the letter states. "It is time to realize that Azerbaijan cannot be trusted–and to recognize the independence of the Mountainous Karabagh Republic. Any other option would threaten the security of the South Caucasus."
The letter was presented to Deputy Foreign Minister Ruben Shugarian to transfer to Davis.
